Prayers Wanted

I don't think I will be able to blog Sun-Wed. Emma and I and our son Dan are taking my husband to Rochester to Mayo Clinic.
That is all I care to share till we know more. We are pleased neighbors will watch our house, my youngest son Dan will go with us for support and to drive if needed. We just have to take this one day at a time.

thank you for your prayers and concern. Emma and i are doing okay. We know the doctor we will see and that is helpful.

Happy Halloween

Friday we did errands and enjoyed a day of laundry, napping and hanging out with Greg. Trying to get things done in the house.

It is Greg's birthday and we both woke up at 3 am so a quick note ha ha.

Emma is up too and puzzled? Now all of us need to get back to bed.

Enjoy Halloween...Mary and Emma

Rain rain rain rain and more rain today.

We went with Greg on errands. Our destination included Ridgedale which gave Emma a chance to walk indoors. She walked with Greg besides with both of us. My legs get tired so I don't last very long. We did not have the scooter loaded in the car as it was going to be a quick trip. We birthday shopped for my son and that was enjoyable. Emma was in great form.

Twas a great afternoon to nap and read a bit. I played with Emma in the house as it was/is not a good day outdoors.

I had a dental appointment and they had to prop my mouth so my jaw is so sore. Off to bed soon.

Emma has been great all day.

Have a good day Mary and Emma

Happy Wednesday

Tuesday was beautiful and sunny. We were outside several times and also went to water exercise. Emma was in a great mood and so fun to be with. Of course, I can say that every day!!!!!!!

Today, Wed, we are home after my counseling appt. The weather isn't bad but it is overcast so feels dreary. I need a nap and we have some quiet chores (sorting paperwork) to take care of. Nothing real exciting today.

Emma is loving crunching in the leaves that need so badly to be raked up. More leaves to fall and eventually it will get done.
In the meantime Emma is happy!!!

Emma was such a helper yesterday picking up the house. She likes to pick up anything - newspaper, a towel I dropped, a toy, just anything. She also is more excited to chase her toys and fetch and bring to me. A good old ball is wonderful or a toy of some type of hers. She is so helpful. I think picking up keys intriques her the most maybe due to the noise (is it intrigues) and it is not often she has to pick them up. Recycled items also delight her. I accidentally knocked over a bag with some plastic bottles and cans and she just had the best time picking up for me.

She is also good for my spirits. cuddling her, going for walks (which we hope to do again today with my scooter) all those things are good for both of us.

I feel kind of lazy so may read a book part of the day.

We wish you a good day. We want more sunshine!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care. Mary and Emma

Book Club

Our big event of the day was Book Club. Emma was a bit off task today needing reminders to do what I asked. Maybe she thought she needed a day off. She is usually sharper.

We came home for a nap, to fold some clothes, organize toys a bit...just quiet things. Bills..a few letters too.

After a nap Emma was ready to help me around here...she was handing me clothes to fold from the basket, handing me toys, and more attentive. We got outside and enjoyed some sun. Gosh I need to clean up the yard. We have a few plants left to remove before winter. They are dead of course it has frosted here. Some plants we just cut back so the roots help hold the dirt and avoid erosion over the winter.

I already have done a bit of Christmas shopping. My sister picked up some items for us. I purchased a few. I think because it is been colder I am more in the mood early this year. The grandchildren will be my first focus. I have to simplify as we have so many medical bills this year...but we try to focus on family and the religious nature of Christmas rather than the presents anyway.
I am already thinking of what to get Emma.

This is cute. Rosa got a fisher price indoor/outdoor tball set. she tried to use it indoors here. Emma would run for the ball. It was nerf type. Well we had to stop as the ball was a bit big for Emma's mouth and got stuck once. Also that type of ball we don't want any bites from Emma if she gets too excited. She was just showing us when she slept over. It is from her other Grandpa and he wants her to use it at his house with him. No pets there and room indoors and out he says.

Emma is more excited to fetch balls and toys again. Maybe with her healthy mouth?? Or just coincidence. She is doing just fine and letting me brush her teeth again. The vet said to keep her mouth closed so her tongue doesn't quick lick off the tooth paste (my problem before).

Well time to eat dinner...Mary and Emma

This is not a new picture but one of my favorites...

Emma please know I love Rosa but you have a special place in my heart.
Thanks for sharing my time with Rosa
For letting Rosa hug you.
For reading books with Rosa and I.
For being a great dog.

I love Emma...Mary
I love sleepovers with Rosa. Anytime with Rosa is fun.

Emma gets a bit jealous. So when she left Emma cuddled in extra close (is that possible) and we napped.
She lay in bed with us as we read books.

It was a good day and night.

We are off to bed (up a bit late due to a nap). Take care and we will try to write more tomorrow.

Emma is doing just great. She likes to get the blanket for me while we watch tv at night. A very appreciated skill.

Emma Is Her Old Self

Thursday means water exercise. Then a nap. Pizza for supper and time to watch tv or read a book or do chores? Which will we pick Emma?

Emma is her old self. Sweet, adorable and fun. She is so precious and appreciated in our home. Yes she is "my dog" but Greg loves her too. For sure. A fact I really like when she has to go to the bathroom later in the evening and will go out with her (though I could do it).

Emma helps lighten my mood. I have some worries and having her around helps. I know I write a lot about our life but not everything belongs in the blog. Emma just adds a nice touch to every day for me.

Friday and if things go as planned we are going to an early movie. Amelia Erhart (spelling?) Some of the women from our MS swim group will be going including Emma. She is considered one of the group ha ha.

The Helping Paws newsletter came out on computer today and gosh it looked fun. I hope we will be there next year. Thanks to both Helping Paws Staff, Volunteers and to the donors that support this cause.

I know from readers it is not easy to post a comment on this blog unless you sign up for an account (which is not that hard). If you prefer to email us at maw40@comcast.net that is just fine.

Emma is enthusiastic today and just so much fun to be with. Glad all went well. We are doing fine. No dental pain for me yeah. Hope it stays that way till Monday Dentist appt.

Mary and Emma wish you a good day.

mellow Emma

A rainy cloudy day and Emma is happy to be home and resting.
She is very tired, and not much activity.
Okay I even opened the refrigerator and she didn't go to see what was going on!!!!!!!!!!!
Normally she is hoping for cheese which I use when we train sometimes.

The vet clinic called to check on her. All is going fine.
they had me give her a med for pain today so that adds to her fatigue I think.
They did want her to rest and take it easy today.
That is why I made no plans for the day.

Emma is happy though.
I took a nap of course and she snuggled right up with me.
She is enjoying being petted.

The vet did not want her playing outside today
But it is raining anyway.
She only wants to go potty and come in when it is like this.

I fluffed up the pillow/bed she uses in the living room.
I have a pillow on the love seat.
In the bed we have "her" pillow too.
She seems to like having a pillow under her chin.

I am having some dental pain waiting to get in for work to be done.
So I am even more sympathetic as mine is mild.
I guess they think by tomorrow she should be just fine.
She is so glad to be home I think.

We go to New Hope Animal Hospital and am happy with the care.
We receive a 20% discount because she is a service dog.
Also the entire amount was $100 less than the estimate
because she did not require as much work .
He said they like to estimate high and they did explain all things thoroughly to me.
They had me give permission for various procedures but also called me during the day.
I am pleased this is done.

Gingivitis was the only need and we will be brushing daily once her mouth isn't tender.

Greg is home today due to medical tests (I mean home after the test) that seems nice.
Mike came to see us today. That was enjoyable.

Take care now,

Sleepy Emma and Mary

Emma HOme

Asleepy, thirsty Emma is home. They said she wouldn't be hungry but to try to wet some dog food and give her up to 1/4 cup if she would eat it on her teeth.

Guess who came home and directly to her food dish? Wet dog food now eaten and she is ready to sleep an me too.

I am suppose to only let her outside when leashed for two days. And no gentle leader for a day so it doesn't cause any pressure on her teeth. Don't brush teeth till two weeks. She did great and was well behaved which is no surprised to me. She is already sound asleep. Sleeping on her side which shows me she is very relaxed.

Happy to have her home. The procedure was cheaper than expected because they did not have to remove any teeth - just a good cleaning...she is priceless and I will sleep so good with her here.

No one should have to try to nap without their dog. I couldn't sleep earlier so off to bed we go soon.

A grateful Mary
A relaxed Emma

Missing Emma

I miss Emma and am in tears. What fun is nap time without her. Everyone missed her at swimming.

The vet called and all went well. No teeth had to be pulled they cleaned up well in her words. They checked her left leg and that seems okay. Sometimes if she over does on that she limps a bit. So yeah it all looks good. We just have to brush her teeth more regularly

I can't wait to be able to pick her up. She had to wait a few hours after the procedures to be sure she was okay from the anesthesia and all.

She was not very happy when I left her though she went willingly with the vet. Her weight was a pound less I think. She was good for the exam where I was able to be in the room. She looked at me like "why am I leaving and not with YOU?" I got all teary though I knew she would do fine. I wiped tears away from my eyes as we went out to the car. She is so special to me.

Coming home after water exercise without her is the pits. It seems too quiet for sure. Where are those loving eyes? I just can't wait to see her.

I plan to write again but once she is safely home I intend to cuddle and cuddle her. Pet her, snuggle and so on.

Thank God for good vet care....Mary

Monday Errands

Emma and I went with Greg and did so many errands today. Emma didn't mind. She was curious about this and that. I was in and out at various scooters at our various places and she helped so much. She handles the positions so well. One of our stops was the dentist. Ouch I need a crown and have a filling that needs to be fixed. So much dental work this past year.

Emma goes on Tuesday for her dental work. We will keep you posted tomorrow night on how she did. I expect it to be just fine.

She also enjoyed the leaves today.

Sunday

Hurray hurray. Greg did not have to go into work till later in the day. Emma and I enjoyed that. After church at our local parish we visited with old friends. They are organizing volunteers to go to Hati and offered "a taste of Hati" for the socializing after Mass. Emma was also great at church like always. New people always come up to us and comment each time. Our chuch has been our parish for 30 years now. Many of the original folks now have grown children and moved to smaller homes, other areas for one reason or another. The parish is growing with new young families moving into the area and so we just don't know as many, Kids activities sure help you get to know people. Also being on committees and what not.

Greg's work keeps him pretty much centered down at the st. Lawrence Neuman Center on weekends. Especially Sundays. So we don't get to our loacal parish as often as we would like. Often enough though that Emma seems familiar to where we sit and the routine.

It has been a lovely fall day. Warmer temps but I think still cooler than normal. People are out raking leaves. We did not rack but got Emma outside several times. She loves plunging into the pile of leaves. You see her hind end sticking up while most of her head is in the leaves. Then she kind of dives into the whole pile. What a dod it is so funny. Lots of people are doing yard work, mowing and so on. I wish I had the energy to do a bit today but I need to rest, read, and fold laundry. Going to church and visiting took awhile too.

We are having dinner before Greg leaves. Again that is a treat to have him home so long on a Sunday. Working for the church for him means busy Sundays. When Emma and I go there to Mass like last week we receive a warm welcome. We are there often enough that many people know her name but not necessarily mine ha ha. but that is fine.

Also her dental work is Tuesday so she is on antibiotics. Taking them so well for us. I still can't imagine her being gone a full 12 hours from me. I wish it was like a person hospital where I could wait through the surgery, be with her in recovery and so on. That is not to be but they will keep in contact by phone. I will be at water exercise that is blocks from the New Hope Animal Hospital where we take her.

Tomorrow a dentist appointment and Greg has an appt to get the results from his tests to check for cancer. He has had kidney cancer several times so is tested regularily. We anticipate good news.

Emma is fine. She is sure good company and help. She has been helping me pick up today....

Take care...Mary and EMMA

Have A Positively Good Day

Things that never end....

House work
Laundry
Yard Clean Up
Dishes

Trying to get some things accomplished the next few days with lots of help from my husband. And Emma too.

Fun things we go to the Ordway tonight to see Little House on the Prairie. Also as a treat stopping for dinner somewhere not too expensive. The tickets were a gift. Emma has been to the Ordway before. I need to check these seats to see if I am bringing her or not. Some places seem so crowded for her. Her behavior would be fine of course.

Good things that I want to think about today

Emma's loyalty and enthusiasm
Love of family and friends
The fun of a date night with my husband
The joy of being a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt etc
The fun of sharing the day no matter what happens with Emma
The fun of blogging and my appreciation for the readers
People I have met through Helping Paws and the blog too

Hope you can think of the positive and have a good day...Mary and Emma

Water exercise today and a nap...the day has been quiet since then.

Will write more tomorrow. tomorrow night i get to the the ordway to see Little House on the Prarie. The tickets were a present from my son and Greg and I are excited.

During the day we will be home I think and be sure to nap so I am not to tired to enjoy it.

Mary and Emma wish you a good day.

WED and We Made It a Good Day

Hi On a Sleepy Wed.

Nope we did not sleep all day this time. It was though a grey day, no sun, and dreary. I guess they predict more normal temps in the 60's on the weekend. I sure hope they are correct.

EMMA had a long long bus ride today. The car ride to counseling is 20 min or more depending on traffic. Metro Mobility takes us by mini bus. Sometimes they do not have other riders so we go right home. Other busy days it is more likely that we pick up and drop off passengers on the ride home. It is a shared ride service like traditional busing.

THE DOWN SIDE for Emma was the long ride. Most drivers insist she be on the floor. She does so willingly but she is spoiled and prefers a seat in any vehicle at all. So today she was on the floor. The trip grew longer as we waited for traffic, passengers to be ready. She was a trooper. I thought I got to see more of the north side of the metro. Changes in the area as it grows etc.

THE UP SIDE. One of the passengers need to fit in both a scooter and walker. I used a cane today. I think I am going to have to use my walker more though. It got so crowded for Emma that she could not stay behind the safty line of the aisle. TA DAH the driver gave her permission to be in the seat next to me. YEP she wants the window side and gets it. She looks so darn proud there viewing the world.

OTHER PLUSES - The ride is door to door. Greg always drops me off on Wed so that is a plus. By the time we are done it is easier to get a ride. You reserve them 4 days in advance. This time I was a day late so we had to wait at the office for the driver to come but yeah yeah he was early and also they had good magazines. I don't subscribe or buy magazines so viewing them while I wait is okay for me.

WE MET ANOTHER PERSON WITH MS - she was so lovely to chat with. We discussed the activities we do to cope. She was interested in MS Camp so I told her about it. She also does not drive due to MS so we discussed strategies for coping with that emotionally and practically. You never know when you will meet someone with MS and be able to share support.

We came home to have lunch and nap. I finally got up and we have banana bread in the oven. I sometimes thinks it smells even better than it tastes. I eat a lot of bananas so sometimes we have extras. It's so easy to make. I don't bake a lot anymore.

So today we really worked on positive attitude. MS spasms might wake me at night but gosh I can nap. I had metro mobility and the nicest driver to escort me today. I met someone I might see again at MS gatherings. It was a darn good day.

Hope you have a darn good day --- Mary and Emma

Prayers to those struggling with the colds and flu going around. MN has been hit hard the news said this week. I think this is true in a lot of areas. Several of my adult children are still sick.

Belated Happy Birthday to Judy

Hi All,

Hope this note finds you in good health. If not, you are not alone. Three of my four children, and one of their boyfriend's are all sick with the flu. Another sick with sinus stuff. Several children who attended the wedding we did also are sick. My great neice had a temp of over 103 Sunday!! She is 11, My children are adults of course.

Emma and I are doing fine but tired. We stayed home today for a variety of reasons. I got some needed rest and relaxation and time at home. Emma got to go outside many times. I am not sure the exact temp but my windows made it look like it was raining. NO it wasn't just snow melting from yesterday's all day snow.

Summer temps in Sept and the winter started. More cold temps coming this way I believe. It is more like November I think. Many leaves dying and dropping before turning color at all. Emma is missing those autumn days of tromping through colored leaves that crunch under foot. At least for today they are all wet. Flowers kissed by frost are done for the year too. But Emma still enjoys outdoors.

A reader reminded me that in a post more than a year ago I wrote/blogged that i had learned you had to choose to be happy. What a good reminder!! from a past blog. We are going with the flow weather wise. We are treasuring family even as I hope for their speedy recovery. I am grateful for a warm home as cold weather and snow barges into our lives. I do think you have to put effort into putting a positive spin on things.

I have been more frustrated than normal lately that I don't drive right now. Whine whine. Nope not going there. So lately I tell myself how fortunate i am that I always have drivers. My husband, my friends, my children, metro mobility - it has worked out. Okay I do miss the quick trips here and there but with planning it is working. I am also learning to be more content with quiet times at home to read, play with Emma, work on the computer, nap, visit with my husband, well you see I am working on this issue.

An acquaintance told me Sunday _ I always am so cheerful. Well not always but am working on it. i cry sometime or get to feel sorry for myself at times. But I am working hard on dealing with life. Hey who knew I would retire early? When my kids were little I never imagined a time when i could nap? swim in the middle of the day? go to lunch with friends? OKAY MS is NOT fun but I have learned from others with the disease that a positive attitude makes coping so much better. I think it also keeps you moving which helps your body deal with it all. Body and soul need that...

WE MISSED NOTING JUDY'S BIRTHDAY. As Emma's foster mom who trained her for over 2.5 years she will always have a special place in our heart. Emma got to see her next week and you would not believe how excited she was and happy to see her. Judy got down on her knees to greet Emma who was eager to get on her lap and slobber on many kisses. God bless Judy for how she changed my life and Emma's.

I can't believe some days how blessed I am. Helping Paws and the Michurski family (yeah Judy, Steve, Mike, Jack, and Katie) have changed my life forever by the love and training they gave Emma. People compliment me on a well trained dog but gosh it started in those early years. I just reinforce and review. Emma is just the best match for my needs and I love her enthusiasm. Also I think she would say she loves being with someone who needs naps. As she gets older She seems to like them more and more. She rarely wakes me now but sleeps as long as i do,

Gosh this is long. It is getting dark so early here in MN. I hope I hear tomorrow that my kids are feeling better with the flu. It takes awhile the nurse told me. I had to call for something else. They actually have a flu hotline at our clinic. They had a pre recorded message with lots of helpful info about the flu, what to do, and when to try to see a doctor. All of this and it is only october. Most years isn't the flu a bit later? Yep I did get a flu shot.

Hope your day goes well. Wonder how many ready this wordy blog. I don't know how many read it as there is no counter. That is okay. I like reflecting on our days. I do get email from some of the readers. Emma and I never mind hearing from you.

maw40@comcast.net

Hope you stay healthy...if not lots of rest and fluids will help you out....Emma and Mary say belated happy birthday to Judy.
You are so special to us....Mary

Monday Night

We are hanging in there. I don't have time to write more tonight as I am headed to bed . Did a few errands today including Barnes and Noble (yeah Emma and I love it there). I had a gift card from my birthday in August to finally use. It was really a nice day. We napped as the snow fell all day. This evening it has stopped.

Off to bed. We hope all is well with you.

Mary

A Snowy Day in OCTOBER??

Emma is in her glory. It snowed last night and has snowed ALL DAY.

She has explored nearly every inch of the fenced yard. Her paw prints show in the snow. It looks like when I had day care here and foot prints would show in the new snow!!! She was so thrilled running around, rolling, putting her face in.

I will write more later but know this is one HAPPY Dog!!

As for me I have to chuckle it is so early in the year. This year mother nature decided to SKIP FALL. We had a cooler than normal summer and then a warm warm Sept and Snowy so far Oct.

Leaves are falling off trees without changing color in our yard. I think these strange occurances have everything mixed up here.

Have a good day....Mary and Snowy Happy Emma

Snow and Emma is Surprised

Emma was so surprised to find snow when she went out this am. I think the cold surprised her most. Yes it coated the ground, the cars. The sun is out now so will melt it eventually. She did not want to roll in it today. I think she has to get use to the cooler weather first.

My great niece certainly did not expect snow when she chose this wedding date. I don't usually look for snow until November. Sometimes not till after Thanksgiving. This shows you how surprising it is to Emma and I though it was predicted.

Off to get some things done before we head over to the wedding. Wishing you a good day.

We will be home all day. I have a cold and just feel worn out. I didn't have a lot of energy yesterday either. We have my great neices wedding this weekend so I need to take it easy.

Cool brr but sunny. I will make sure Emma gets outside. Greg took her outside for exercise this am.
He will do the same tonight. I will bundle up and get her outside during the day.

Thanks to Judy and Rosie as the demonstration yesterday went really well...though I don't think I was much help...just no energy. Emma was thrilled thrilled thrilled to see Judy again. She also enjoyed Keiley, and Loti. thanks to Rosie and Lotie for all they did yesterday. Rosie is a dear. I was the teacher to their children. Seeing them both was delightful. Loti did great with Rosie.

Always nice to see Judy and thank her for raising Emma....where would I be without Emma?

Twins Win

Thanks to my kids for a fun party/dinner watching the twins game. Sorry Justin had to work and Tia and Mike had to leave early. We had a great time with them all. Rosa screamed with the rest of us but always "go Joe Mauer" her favorite

Poor Emma another day of rain and she hates going to the bathroom in the rain. She will wait till she seems miserable.

My throat hurts but I think it is just from yelling through the game? We will be at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley at 1 tomorrow to show MS patients who come there for mtgs the service dogs and what they can do in general and for those with MS. Judy and Keiley will be there. (Emma's foster mom) and Rosie and Loti. I taught both Judy and Rosie's children at one time. Though it was not Judy's decision that I received Emma. That was a surprise for both of us. Rosie also was a good pal to Emma as she was being trained. How fun for Emma to see them both tomorrow.

Emma Went to The Vet

Emma was so nervous at the vet. They decided to take her into the carpeted conference room where she seemed more comfortable for the exam. The Vet told me she looked great. I was pleased. She needed some immunizations. We also will be having her get some dental work done. This will be within the next 6 weeks. We have to set the date with them. She was doing just fine in all other ways.

Another dog we saw it turned out had a large mass in the abdomen. It was a little dog and I didn't know the bread. The owner looked so very very sad. We felt so fortunate that Emma's only concern was to clean her teeth. We can handle that.

It is Tuesday and I rarely am up at 5:20 am. Unlike those who working days I can go back to bed. The big game between the Twins and Detroit for 1st place in the division is tonight. Anna, Rosa, Mike, and Tia are coming over to watch the game. How fun is that?

It is raining again today. We can use it but it has been a lot of days of rain and/or no sun. Emma will only go to the bathroom when it stops for awhile unless she is desperate. It is amazing how fast she can go outside , "go" and come back in the rain.

We wish you a good day...Mary and the back to bed dog Emma

I will write more later.

Oops forgot to write and off to bed. We are fine - more tomorrow. Hope you had a good weekend. Loved the Twins Victories the past days.

Exercising with the Dog

I found a cute slide show on Web Md. Follow this link and click on exercising with dogs.
http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/default.htm

It has been days since Emma and I could go for a walk outside due to wind and then rain. It is so wet the past four days she hasn't wanted to be outside much. Hopefully we will take her to a store today or tomorrow to get some more walking in.
I wish I could "walk" her but with my scooter I accomplish the same thing. I am so happy to be outside playing with her on good days - even in the snow. She loves the snow.

Leaves are falling and I hope during the dry days she will get to have her fun in the leaves. She just loves that. Today we are cozy indoors, doing a few chores and not expecting to go anywhere at all. Bummer I left the book I am reading in Greg's van it would be a good day to get some reading accomplished. fun too.

It seems like Fridays are when i get calls done for personal business and gosh this time of year people tend to take that day off for a long weekend. Usually it is a good time to look at changing leaves, go up the north shore (I have a friend there Brr) etc before it gets cold for winter. Glad for them to get the day off but frustrating when I want to reach them.

I am anticipating a quiet weekend. Next weekend will be busy Fri-Sunday due to a wedding and Sunday a big celebration at Greg's work...a reunion of the student peer leaders who have worked with him.

Well be creative in your exercise with your dog. But plan water for both the pet and you.

Have a great weekend

Twins Won Today yeah.

It is a rainy, windy day here. We went to water exercise, watched part of the baseball game and then hunkered down for a nap.
Emma had to go out between raindrops to do her duty.

Wed at 1 pm at Regency Hospital on Hidden Lakes pkwy in Golden Valley we are having a demonstration of three service dogs. Peggy will bring Thor, Judy will have Keiley, and I will have Emma. It is at 1 am but will likely be crowded. The primary audience is people with MS but others are welcome too.

I am pretty tired today so will relax tonight. I might be getting a cold but not sure.

Mary and Emma say stay warm and snuggle in if you live where fall has come. We need the rain badly as Sept was dry and a drought this summer...but brr brr.
